"Nuclear energy generates power through fission, which is the process of splitting uranium atoms to produce energy. The heat released by fission is used to create steam that spins a turbine to generate electricity without the harmful byproducts emitted by fossil fuels.
According to the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the United States avoided more than 476 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2019. That’s the equivalent of removing 100 million cars from the road and more than all other clean energy sources combined.
It also keeps the air clean by removing thousands of tons of harmful air pollutants each year that contribute to acid rain, smog, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease." - https://www.energy.gov/
The United States has nuclear power plants across 29 states
It generates over half of clean energy in the United States
But Fossil Fuels still produce a significant portion of our energy



Nuclear energy prevented over 500 million metric tons of carbon emissions in 2019
It's one of the safest sources to produce
And yes, the death rate for nuclear energy does include the deaths from the Fukushima and Chernobyl disasters
Reactors aren't designed like they used to be
"A terawatt-hour is a unit of energy equal to outputting one trillion watts for one hour. It is equal to 3.6x1015 Joules. This value is large enough to express annual electricity generation for entire countries, and is often used when describing major energy production or consumption."
Over the energy production life cycle, Nuclear energy actually produced less emissions compared to solar and wind generated power.

It's the cleanest source of energy we have
And the only one that's capable of generating the power we need

Regardless of the time of year, nuclear energy operates at nearly full capacity.
"Nuclear power plants operated at full capacity more than 93% of the time in 2019—making it the most reliable energy source in America. That’s about 1.5 to 2 times more reliable as natural gas (57%) and coal (48%) plants, and roughly 2.5 to 3.5 times more reliable than wind (35%) and solar (25%) plants."
"Despite producing massive amounts of carbon-free power, nuclear energy produces more electricity on less land than any other clean-air source.
A typical 1,000-megawatt nuclear facility in the United States needs a little more than 1 square mile to operate. NEI says wind farms require 360 times more land area to produce the same amount of electricity and solar photovoltaic plants require 75 times more space."
