John's inspiration from his nba discovery

Part I Origin
John is a foreign college student who majored in computer science, and he has been playing basketball since very young. He loves playing basketball and enjoys watching NBA games a lot! His favorite player is LeBron James.
Sweating in the basketball court makes him feel great. Besides, he was also wondering how much could an NBA player make.
He was amazed by the salaries that NBA players could make. And he sometimes dreamt about being an NBA player. However, with his average male height, John wondered what is his possibility playing in the NBA.
Part II Curiosity
Driven by his curiosity, he checked the height distribution of NBA players across the season 2000 -2016. He realized the average height is around 201 cm. His height falls on the left tail of the distribution. Those players on tails must be very strong or have other outstanding abilities to play in NBA. John realized that he had better to treat basketball as a hobby. What’ more, he could still pursue his another hobby as a career, programming!
However, his curiosity didn't stop. One more question occurred to him that since the height is so important to NBA players, are all-star players generally higher than other players?
Seeing this he realized that once you are in the league, you are not limited by your physical condition. He felt a little relieved because he is not the smartest student in his major. As long as he works hard, he could also be an all-star programmer!
Part III Research
One potential concern for his career is that he is a foreign student in U.S. He was not sure how fair he could land his career in U.S. after graduation. So he checked the number of foreign players in NBA. He knew that this may not be a good comparison, but NBA is one part of that how US is open to foreigner.
Seeing his, he realized that only a small portion of NBA players come from foreign countries. He thought this may not be a good way to view the data. He also checked the changing rate of the players and he found that the foreign players portion is increasing during the years.
He also checked the countries that NBA players come from season 1996 - 2017 and he found that those players almost come from everywhere from the world. Thus, NBA league is open to all players around the world regardless where you come from.
Part IV Inspiration
John was pleased by his discoveries. First of all, his performance as a programmer is not limited by his level of smart, as long as he works hard, he could have good performance. Secondly, Even he is not a US citizen, as long as he works hard, he will get a fair career chance in US.
Now he just need to bring more confidence to his study and continue enjoy playing basketball!
Compare to John, we may have different major or different favorite sport. But we can all learn from John's story. Do what you love, love what you do. Keep a good life balance and be prepared for your challenge!
