Smoking Has Declined Across the United States since the mid 1900's.

Policy changes and public health anti-smoking campaigns have helped to minimize the percentage of American's who are smokers.

In 1965, over 40% of adults in the United States were smokers.

In 1997, over 35% of high schoolers were smokers. By 2017, that number had dropped to under 10%.

Painstaking harm reduction efforts reduced these numbers.

But today, kids who may have never started to smoke at all are experimenting with e-cigarettes, becoming addicted to nicotine without ever having tried a cigarette.

2014 onwards, teenagers have reported using e-cigarettes more than any other form of nicotine.

By 2019, 27.5% of high schoolers were turning to e-cigarettes.

This is over 2.5 million kids and teens a year.

Though this is lower than the peak of 2.9 million kids and teens in 2019, we still have a long way to go.
